Form & Matter’는 독일, 일본, 오스트리아와 한국의 다섯명의 디지털 아티스트들과 하는 오디오비쥬얼 쇼케이스이다. 각각의 아티스트는 그들만의 접근 방식을 통해 시각적 현상 안에서 청각적 가치들을 도출하거나 혹은 반대의 작업을 한다. 아티스트들은 질서와 무질서의 경계, 추상적 형태와 기하하적 형태의 경계 안에서 균형을 유지하면서 오디오와 비쥬얼을 결합하여 몰입적인, 불편한 혹은 매료되는 경험을 역동적으로 만들어낸다. 인스톨레이션 작업들과 라이브 퍼포먼스로 구성된 ‘Form & Matter’는 과감한 미학과 기술적 실험들 뿐만 아니라 시각과 청각의 감각적 인지성 자체를 실험하는 경험이 될 것이다.

‘Form & Matter’ is an audiovisual showcase bringing 5 digital artists from Germany, Japan, Korea & Austria together in one physical space. Each with their own flowing approach, the artists translate the qualities found in sound within visual phenomena and vice versa. By keeping balance between order and chaos, between abstract matter and geometric form, the creators employ dynamic processes fusing sound and visuals into a synthesised, immersive experience, unsettling and mesmerising at the same time. Featured in Installations and Live Performances, we are awaiting a show challenging our sensory perception through image and sound.

‘Monoscape – Seeing with the Mind’s Eye’ is a two-week-long presentation of works by five emerging artists: Yunseob Kim, Klof, Sujin Park, Joo Kyung Heo and Mansoon Kim. Each one motivated by a different impulse, the artists share a common preoccupation with moving slowly, observing their environment and challenging the logic of consumption, monetization and efficiency, injected into every waking minute of our daily lifes.
While the information age is drowning us in a deluge of data, this project aims to reveal the presence of a ‘lessening’ movement, a movement daring to strip everything down to its essential quality to achieve simplicity, opening up a dialogue with the surrounding environment with respect to the profound and innate characteristics of materials.

우리가 현재 겪고 있는 새로운 정보의 시대는 우리의 환경을 아직까지 경험하지 못했던 정보의 과포화 상태로 잠식시키고 있다.동시에 우리는 삶에 대한 결정들을 그 어떤 때보다 빠르고 많이 내리도록 강요당하고 있다. 기술의 진보와 함께 찾아온 “속도의 최우선” 현상은 현재의 데이터 오염을 초래하고 있다; 소음과 정보의 과포화는 지속적으로 우리의 인지적 손실을 자극하고 있다.사회의 시스템 안에 만들어진 정보의 과포화의 지속적 확장은 우리를 이러한 오염에서 벗어나기 점점 더 힘들어지도록 하고 있다.

이 공모를 통해 우리는 현재 우리가 살고 있는 도시와 사회에 대한 보다 관조적 시각을 탐험하고자 한다. 일상의 디지털화와 이에 대해 무감각화 되어가는 스스로를 비판하고 변화할 수 있는 결정적 역할을 할 수 있는 아티스트들을 초대한다. 이 프로젝트는 현재 새롭게 형성되고 있는 ‘최소화 움직임’, 즉, 모든 요소들을 가장 본질적인 단계로 간소화 시켜서 순수성을 회복하는 움직임이 이루어지고 있음을 드러내고 현재 우리의 환경 속 물질적 요소들의 선천적 본질들에 대한 깊이 있는 대화들을 시작하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

공모 참여 //

우리는 경계를 깨뜨리는 새로운 사고 방식을 가진 신진 혹은 중견 작가들과 함께 하고자 한다. 참여 작가들은 이 프로젝트를 통해서 이루어지는 생각과 작업들이 기록되어지고, 이후에 대중과 공유되어질 것에 대해 미리 인지하고 있어야 한다. 과정의 기록을 통해 대중을 보다 프로젝트에 적극적이고 깊이 참여하게 하고, 이를 통해 대중이 아티스트의 사고에 대해 깊이 있게 인지하도록 함을 목표로 한다.

The information age is drowning us with an unprecedented deluge of data. At the same time, we’re expected to make more – and faster – decisions about our lives than ever before. Technological innovation along the lines of ‘faster is better’ creates ongoing data smog; noise and information pollution constantly challenge and assault our brains at cognitive costs. It is hard to escape the information overflow in a society that is built on a system, which believes in growth as the only driving force.

With this Open Call we aim to explore a more contemplative perspective on the city and society we live in. Artists are invited to take an essential role in influencing and critiquing the digitization of daily life and the resulting desensitization. This project aims to reveal the presence of a ‘lessening’ movement, a movement daring to strip everything down to its essential quality to achieve simplicity, opening up a dialogue with the surrounding environment with respect to the profound and innate characteristics of materials.

PARTICIPATION //

We aim to offer possibilities to emerging and mid-career artists who are able to think in new ways, break boundaries and advocate unconventional ideas. The artist, thinker or maker should be prepared to document the learning and development process for the project. This documentation, which may take any number of forms, will further engage the public by increasing understanding of the project itself. It also aims at engaging the public with the project and at shedding light on the artist’s creative and educational process.

Pussykrew is an interdisciplinary artistic duo comprising Tikul aka Ewelina Aleksandrowicz and mi$ gogo aka Andrzej Wojtas. Collaboratively, they work within a wide range of digital media spanning from 3D imagery, multimedia installations and video clips to audio-visual performances and sculpture design.

FUTURE MEMORIES displays the artists latest artistic explorations and creative practices through digital fabric prints, a video projection and their award winning 3D printed sculpture series. By blurring the borders between physical and digital spheres through the use of body scanning and computer-generated imagery (CGI) the viewer is invited to join their ongoing search for liminal states within the digital realm.

Pussykrew 팝업 전시 / Unjin(Live)과의 퍼포먼스

Pussykrew는 Tikul, aka Ewelina Aleksandrowicz와 mi$ gogo, aka Andrzej Wojtas으로 구성되어 3D 이미지부터 멀티미디어 인스톨레이션, 비디오 작업, 오디오-비쥬얼 퍼포먼스, 조각 작업까지 다양한 디지털 미디어 작업을 하는 다원적 아티스트 듀오이다.

미래의 기억 전시는 아티스트 그룹의 최근 예술적 탐험과 창의적 작업들을 디지털 패브릭 프린트, 비디오 프로젝션 그리고 최근 여러 차례 수상을 해온 3D 프린팅 조각 시리즈를 통해 보여준다. 신체 스캐닝과 컴퓨터 생산 이미지(CGI) 기법을 이용하여 현실과 가상의 경계를 흐림으로서 관람객이 가상의 영역안에서 아티스트가 탐험해온 현실적 경계를 체험할 수 있도록 초대한다.

DIS /PARITITIES
INVESTIGATIONS OF SOUND, LIGHT & SPACE

Nam Sang Chul, Korea-based visual artist and coder meets Austrian-born experimental film-maker & visual artist Rainer Kohlberger. Concerned with liveness and presence, this encounter juxtaposes two individual artistic approaches oscillating between the imposition and deliberate absence of structural and spatial dimensions. Borrowing its name from latin paritas, par meaning equal, each artist invites the visitor to immerse in a three-dimensional experience, transforming senses of space and time. Sang Chul’s choreography of structural elements collides with Kohlberger’s disorientating vague patterns and flickering moirés, exploring and constantly reassessing the dynamic relationship between the viewer and their work.

소리, 빛 그리고 공간에 대한 연구들
한국을 기반으로 활동하고 있는 시각 예술가이자 코더 남상철 작가와 오스트리아를 기반으로 활동하는 아방가르드 필름 제작자 Rainer Kohlberger의 2인전. 살아 움직이는 것과 가만히 존재하는 것의 서로 다른 성격의 작업을 하는 이 두 작가가 한 공간에 같이 병치됨으로써 공간의 구조가 만들어지는 것과 해체되는 것을 동시에 오가며 경험할 수 있게 한다. 라틴어 paritas에서 비롯된 par는 동일함을 의미한다. 두 아티스트는 관객을 준비된 삼차원의 경험으로 이끌고 그 안에서 시간과 공간이 지속적으로 변화함을 느끼게 해준다. 남상철 작가의 구조적으로 구성된 요소들은 Rainer Kohlberger 작가의 혼란적인 흐릿한 패턴들, 깜박거리는 물결들과 충돌하여 관객들을 그들의 작업들 사이에서 깊은 힘의 관계들을 탐험하게 한다. DIS / PARITIES는 일시적인 현상이다. 이 전시를 통해 생성된 작품들 사이의 상대성을 보고 경험하는 그 순간만이 유일하게 DIS / PARITIES 가 존재하는 순간이다.

“D”는 서울의 일상적 인물들을 재구성과 변형하여 초상화를 그리고 이를 통해 숨겨진 내면의 인간성을 겉으로 드러낸다. 뉴미디어아티스트 그룹 신남전기는 “D” 의 회화작업 속 파헤쳐지고 드러난 인간성의 구조를 새로운 레이어의 영상으로 실체화시킨다. 서울의 사라진 가면 속 원래의 얼굴들은 두 아티스트 그룹의 서로 다른 미디어의 교차를 통해 실체를 드러낸다.

FACADES – PREMATURE MUTATIONS – “D” SOLOSHOW

You see them everyday in the streets, on television or in the subways: chiseled bodies and sanitized perfect faces. Through his expressive painting gestures, “D” removes the masks we wear everyday. Dehumanized, depersonalized faces are ‘re-humanized’ in his abstract portraits. The canvas and models for his paintings are you and me, day-to-day characters encountered on the streets of Seoul. Taken from their original context, he reconstructs and mutates them, eliminating the masks of education, culture and societal standards, bringing forth the inner self in anthropomorphic representations.

매일 그들을 길거리에서 볼 수 있다, TV에서 혹은 지하철에서: 깎아 놓은 듯한 몸들과 살균이 된 듯한 완벽한 얼굴들. “D”는 그의 표현적 회화 작업을 통해 우리가 매일 쓰고 있는 가면을 제거한다. 말살된 인간성, 사라진 정체성의 얼굴들은 그의 추상적 초상화를 통해 재-인간화된다. 그의 회화 작업 속 캔버스와 모델들은 너와 나, 그리고 서울의 길에서 마주할 수 있는 일상적 인물들이다. “D”는 이러한 서울의 일상적 인물들을 원래의 맥락과 분리시키고 그들을 재구성하며 변형시킨다. 이 과정을 통해 교육, 문화 그리고 사회적 기준들로 이루어진 가면들을 없애고 내면의 인간성을 겉으로 드러낸다.
